About Us

Suffolk Sinfonia

We rehearse regularly on Wednesday evenings during term time and perform three concerts a year in the Apex.

Our resident conductor is Neil Carlson, a founding member of the orchestra.  We also invite visiting conductors to work with us on a regular basis.

Suffolk Sinfonia

Suffolk Sinfonia was founded in the Autumn of 1998.  We pride ourselves on being a local orchestra, consisting of local musicians, performing concerts for local audiences.

Our members come from all walks of life, united in the aim of bringing a varied and exciting repertoire of music to Bury St Edmunds.

The Friends of the Suffolk Sinfonia are people who support the orchestra by making a financial contribution of £20 per year.

Friends know that they are helping to ensure the continued presence of live orchestral music in the area.

Friends are included in our mailing list.

Friends obtain advance information about our concerts.

Friends are entitled to a free programme on presentation of membership card.

If you would like to become a Friend of the Suffolk Sinfonia, please contact the Friends' Secretary by e-mail or ask at a concert.

Running a Symphony Orchestra is an expensive business.  We believe in offering affordable concerts to the public, but we must balance this against the hire charges for the use of premises, music hire, conductors and soloists.

We are therefore very thankful to receive sponsorship from a loyal set of Orchestral Friends and also from local companies Music Sales and Bedfords Estate Agents.
